Guido's Bio

Might as well write something here, just for the fun of it.

To start us off, I'm not German. I'm Dutch, with some Irish ancestry somewhere along the line. Let's see... Besides that, I'm 24 years of age and I'm working as a teacher, teaching kids from the ages of 12-16 the wonderful yet bizarre Dutch language. That's all for now... If you have a question, just dump a message on that messageboard below and I'll answer your question.

  9. Guido,

Arsenal play the closest to total football of all the modern football teams. Where Arsenal especially play this kind of game is in midfield, where you see players switching positions so often - Cesc drifts to the right or left, Nasri moves in field with Denilson adjusting his position according to Cesc's..

Also, with the level of versatility of Arsenal players, it wouldn't be wrong to call what they play total football - Clichy and Sagna bomb up and down, with Gallas also moving forward whenever possible. Adebayor also drifts to the wings and even when Walcott plays, he sometimes pops into the centre or makes some diagonal runs..

They basically play all over the field - they're capable.. but do they play the "pure" form of total football.. I don't think any team does today.. but they're the closest form of that.

    Hope that helped.

    Cheers,
    Shyam.

  10. Eeeeeeeeeemh, I think Arsenal play a version of total football if that is a fair comment to make. It is often called "Wengerism" or as Wenger himself likes to call it the players are "playerish" in that they play football, are skillfull etc.

However, if you take total football as being where a player can take over the role of any other player in the team then I would have to say not really.

I'll look into it more and see what Shyam's says. If you want I can e-mail around some more Arsenal fans and see what they think.
