Alex's Bio

I love football, live and breath the game. Big Arsenal fan, but I try to keep as impartial with my views as possible. Love La Liga, and Spain in general. Favourite Spanish team is probably Valencia, though Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao are always high in my affections. Always up for talking about anything football-related, as the famous adage goes, I eat, sleep and drink it.

  7. The Underestimated Importance of Football Agents

For some the roles of agents keep football the billion pound industry it is across the world today.

For others agents are unnecessary commodities that suck millions of pounds out of the game each year at the expense of the sport. Which Side do you sit on?

Be sure to leave your opinion Alex!

  12. To be honest we were not excited about the arrival of Aragones in the first place. And as for Güiza, the verdict is yet to be done.

Aragones signed a 2 year contract which he declared will be followed by his retirement. Zico was not kept because of some vague reasons everyone rumors about. Some say the board wanted him to change his staff, some say it's the money, some say it's because he did not win the league. Whatever the reason was, the team was improving with a limited squad. That is disturbed by the change of manager.

Aragones is probably a great manager but he needs readier teams. More technical, more equipped, more technique. Whenever a foreign coach comes to Turkey they say "Turkish players are very technical". I find it funny because behind that technique you hardly find any fundamental, which throws the technique to garbage. Briefly, Fenerbahçe is not a team for Aragones.

Kezman was our previous striker, which failed heavily during his time in Istanbul. He scored many but he was playing a single striker and was losing the ball all the time etc. When Semih was in better shape he was at the bench but always kept talking then. He was not the player for us. Now Güiza is playing single striker or one of double with Semih but he is not much different than Kezman. Fenerbahçe is in need of a striker who is really strong, can dribble past defenders and is dominant in air. Ok, that is Adriano :) But I fancy that there must be other players which fit to that description more than Güiza does when you are considering a spectrum between Adriano and Kezman :)

We are not really impressed with the club's transfer policy actually, team is lacking depth in many positions but we are being miser when it comes to buying new players. The fee of 14M€ is a huge figure paid for Güiza's services, ok, but what about a right full back, or replacement for Aurelio.

Last year's league runners up and CL quarter finalist is already fighting for a UEFA cup place in the league after just 7 match days. This is sad.

  13. Last night's game was quite entertaining for any football fan, regardless of the team they support, except for us of course. Yesterday was weird, tons of goals in all games almost.

Our team is almost the same as last year's but interestingly we are conceding many goals. Loss of Aurelio to Betis and Aragones' way of handling team defense is confusing every thing. His latest practice in Spain national team is inapplicable to today's Fenerbahçe. They had so many technical and physical players, quality with the ball etc. So closing down the distance between frontline and backline was not much of a problem for them. They were able to play 4 central midfielders at the same time because of this. But Fenerbahçe is not Spain. Our backline is not as organised and anticipating. Our central midfielders are plain warriors with close to none technical capacity. So they tackle and win the ball but cannot use them effectively. Güiza missed tons of goals which would have changed the scoreline but the game was not going in our favor at any moment. If we were to score 7 goals, you would score 8.

Aragones' days are considered counted but it doesn't look like he will resign. Everyone believes he has huge numbers in his contract as compensation so us sacking him looks unlikely too. No one knows what will happen. We are terrible in the league too. We'll see.

  14. i find it quite amusing that an arsenal fan added me the day after his team defeated mine 5-2 :)
