Jon's Bio

Jon is a graduate student working on his Masters Degree in writing. He is a fan of all sports Minnesotan, but ranks mixed martial arts as his favorite sport. He was a late bloomer to MMA, not really getting into the sport until the Tito/Shamrock feud began, but doesn't really feel like he missed much leading up to all the ado.

Depending on what article you read, Jon is between 5'4"-6'8", between 120-320 pounds and may or may not be a member of the Communist party. He is single/married/divorced/widowed and enjoys drinking in the dark.

Jon is also the first winner of the Bleacher Report Humor Bowl, which he attributes either to not being held enough by his mother, or a little too much by his "uncle".

  1. Who is your MW "Peoples Champ?" Vote in my latest (just for fun).

  2. Hi, Jon

I noticed that the number of POTD's are displayed on the writers' profiles. I have 7 or 8 POTD's, yet they are not displayed on my profile. Is there anyway to correct that?

    Thanks.

  3. Hi Jon,

I wrote an article called: "The UFC announces its marriage to Hollywood."

Unfortunately, when I went to put it under "editorial," the article jumped to the B/R front page before I could even push the button. Consequently, it is not listed at all...except under "newest articles."

Can you figure out how to get the title under "editorial?"

    thank you, Jon

  4. Hey Jon, I'm trying to write my story but something is wrong. I get done with the spell check and click the continue button but nothing is happening. I made sure everything was spelled right and the first three items on the checklist were crossed off but it won't let me go on to the next step. I've written one article before so I know it's not me or my computer. Ever heard of this? How do I fix it?

  5. Whats up Jon, I haven't gotten your rankings yet, just a reminder, Im hoping to release them to the public soon. Cant wait to see yours

  6. Thanks jon

  7. dee..is there not something you or zander can do about people who sign up with no bio or photos only to spam us.Cant there be a prerequisite that states only members with bios and pics can comment??.That would make me want to stay ..because this thing with Anthony Pole ..has got me stressed to the max..he has signed up as 100 different people..and now I'm walking on egg shells..lol...I love B/R but too many transients are able to just walk in and spam..(anytime they feel)..I wanted to join the b/R writers club and had to request it on facebook..why cant he make it so joining this website has to be approved by request..then he would see that Anthony Pole(not his real name)..HAS BEEN IP banned from sherdog..THATS ENOUGH NOT TO WANT HIM ON HERE ..I WOULD THINK../SEE WHERE IM COMING FROM WITH THIS??..IVE TRIED WRITING ZANDER WITH NO RESPONSE./THANKS STOKER.

  8. You were right, I didnt even see it coming =)

  9. Ha ha, I'm with you on that one! I loved the kickboxing but I got frustrated with semi-contact and got mauled too hard in full-contact. I work as a nurse so it doesn't look great turning up with 2 black eyes every week. That's why the grappling arts are good, you can go full steam and noone usually gets hurt too badly.
Got big respect for BJJ guys, it's a very good art. In fact all the british olympic judo team cross-train in it to help their groundwork. Didn't do them much good this year but it's definitely a good idea. Was thinking of giving it a go myself actually, a guy called Braulio Estima who's suppose to be very good (won the Pan Ams a few years running? Doesn't mean a lot to me but apparently it's quite prestigious) runs a club near me and I'm tempted to pop down.
Anyway, keep up the good articles mate. Respect

  10. Yeah I've done judo since I was a kid, it's pretty mainstream here and the rest of europe. It's given me a lifelong fascination with martial arts. I've dabbled a little in kickboxing, aikido and wing chun too but wouldn't claim any real prowess in any of them, lol, judo's definitely my big passion. Used to compete at county squad level in my youth (not sure what the equivalent would be over where you are. Is it Canada or the US? Couldn't work it out from your profile) but just a recreational player now.
Do you train in anything yourself? You seem very knowlegable about the arts which, as you point out in your excellent article, a lot of MMA 'fans' sadly aren't. Having said that, from my experiences chatting about the sport on various online forums I'd imagine that Canada has the most educated fans outside of Japan. Everyone I ever speak to who knows there stuff seems to be from there!
    Cheers
    Matt

  11. Isn't fighters.com Jeremy Schoemaker's site? I'm a fan of his shoemoney blog. Anyways, it wouldn't necessarily be a conflict of interest. I'm just getting started and I need writers (mostly to report and opine on MMA news) so I can focus on operating the business. If you'd like to write any guest posts to promote your content elsewhere I'm ok with that. Are there any other writers on the bleacher report you would suggest I approach? Let me know, thanks for your time.

  12. Do you have an e-mail I can reach you at Jon?

  13. In response to making it top 3, I feel that even top five was small, so far Derek Bedell and Derek Bolender have sent in their top 5 and top 10 P4P. I hope to see yours soon.

The reason why I chose only from lightweight to heavyweight, is because those are the most recognizable divisions. The smaller divisions consist of most japanese fighters that are relatively unknown in the US.

  14. Hows it goin? Since your in the top 20 MMA writers Ive invited you to voice your opinion in the first community MMA rankings. Id like for you to please select your top 5 fighters in each division starting with lightweight and then make a top ten P4P ranking. Please keep the following in mind when making your rankings.

    -Quality of opponents
    -Division domination
    -Fight consistency

Also keep in mind this is the best in the WORLD. not just the UFC. When your finished just post my profile page and I'll give you my email where you can send it in. Hopefully we can make this happen

    Mike

  15. Hey Jon, I enjoyed reading through some of your posts, I liked the sense of humor. Considering your "community leader" status I figured you'd be the best person to ask...our website www.atlanticmma.com is looking for MMA News contributors.

Do you think some of the quality writers (yourself included) here might be interested?

Thanks for your time. Take care.
