Ken's Bio

My name is Ken Armer. I’m a 21-year old college student currently residing in Waco, Texas. I am the newly appointed NHL Community Coordinator here at Bleacher Report, and currently serve as both an assistant Community Leader for the NHL and as Community Leader for the Dallas Stars. I was also formerly an editing intern for Bleacher Report. Other accomplishments to date include several articles featured on CBSSports.com, as well as interviews for television and radio.

I am more than willing to look over an article or lend help to anyone who needs it. Just drop me a line at karmer@bleacherreport.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1987, my love of hockey began at age 8 when I attended my first game with my sister who lives in Dallas. The game featured the Dallas Stars and the Vancouver Canucks. I fell in love with the game immediately. Within a year, my father and I had a new bonding activity and he began tossing money left and right so that I could learn to skate, play the game, and sign up for a league.

I played hockey in Kansas City back when the Blades of the IHL were around, and had the opportunity to learn hockey from several of their historic players. I was fortunate to have amazing coaches who taught me the values of the game on and off the ice. In addition, my father and I often watched games together and were always adding out own colorful commentary. His passion for the game made me love it even more, which may be me why I hung up my skates after his passing in 2002. The game simply wasn’t the same without him.

Since that time I have played hockey on several occasions. Thanks to my father I can read and analyze with the best of them. My favorite teams include the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks. The game is in my blood, and I could not have found my passion for the game without my dad. Thanks Dad, I pray that every article I write has a piece of you in it.

I would like to thank the readers and fans on Bleacher Report as well as those who have helped me with my work. Zander for being a force behind the amazing idea that is Bleacher Report, Bryan Thiel for nurturing and supporting me from the get go, Chandra Zorr for editing my articles, regardless of the hour. Alan Bass and Greg Caggiano for talking hockey all day and everyday, and Alyssa for somehow taking an interest in something you knew nothing about. Without all of you Bleacher Report would not be half as much fun as it is!

  1. Yo, just text or call me, you have the number lol

  2. All's well except money, but we're all in that boat together. Glad to see Big Dave post something on BOTP--I had five in a row and thought it was just you and me!
And you're killing me with kindness about the Sharks. Can't believe how much the Stars are struggling--losing twice to LA? What's going on?

  3. OK man looking forward to it.

  4. Hey Ken-

I decided to put a Chicago Blackhawks collaboration together and would really appreciate it if you would take a look at it.

    Thank You

    Michael

  5. Love the Montreal Canadiens, or hate the Montreal Canadiens.

Some B/r’s Montreal’s true non-fans share with us their stories. Please comment and tell me what you favourite moment was, against the Habs.

    Miah ;)

  6. Yes, you guys have the history of choking. This is the 21st century, not the days of Brett Hull's foot in the crease. In the past six seasons, both teams have reached the Western Conference Finals (both eliminated in six games), but only one has lost in the first round. Like I commented on your BOTP article, the only Pacific Division team that can talk trash about us being chokers is the Anaheim Ducks.

I got word from someone at the BR office that the Erik thing has been dealt with, and he has stopped posting messages on my bulletin board defending his words. I'm sure he doesn't accept that he did anything wrong, either, so it burns me he is ranked ahead of me as an NHL writer with that kind of trash, even if it's only because he started earlier and has more volume.

Those of us who write with professional standards and aspire to more are held back by hacks like that who keep blogs from being viewed as legitimate. But then, without the traffic they create (as well as those flamers who are even worse), the site would get less exposure and be less significant, so it's a double-edged sword. So whaddya gonna do? You gotta take the good with the bad, I guess.

  7. What were you saying about dining on Shark? I just wished upon 20 fallen Stars!

  8. Hey Ken,

Obviously the Boucher for Blake deal is still on the table but I'm willing to sweeten the pot and throw in Rolston. Even though he's on IR the report says he's not far from returning. So you get two for one on this deal because I have so many good LW's that when he returns someone has to go, and I'm comfortable with my others. Let me know what you think.

    Greg

  9. Check out my recap on the Canadiens-Blue Jackets game. Do comment!

  10. I'm smokin' y'all on BOTP--I got more articles than ally'all! But then, my Sharks have almost as many wins as ally'all!

  11. hi Ken,

thanks for looking over my article and commenting on it!

    miah ;)

  12. Hey Ken. I'd love your feedback on my latest article drawing parallels between Tiger Woods' ascension and Obama's election as President. Thanks!

  13. hey ken! Long time no...anything. I have not been around much because of school and work and such but today I tried to write a new article and it would not let me type in the text box.

    I NEED HELP! haha.

    thanks.

    adam

  14. Hi Ken!
    How are you?

    I just red this,
    http://starsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/11/modano-with-strong-words.html

did he say that against Avery? but what happened during the game?

    take care,
    miah ;)

  15. I want to put together a round table piece before I go to Pennsylvania on Tuesday so I'm asking now if you could please type me one or two paragraphs on how you first got interested in hockey and what you remember about going to your first NHL game. Please email it to nyr1199@comcast.net.

    Thanks,
    Greg
