After the events of last Saturday night we have entered into a new era of mixed martial arts. A new promotion to be known as the World Cage-fighting Alliance is scheduled to announce its planned launch later this week.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com has stated that sources within the organization confirmed to them that the WCA plans to adopt the same business model as Strikeforce.
Brock Lesnar is the new heavyweight champion and one can only wonder what will happen should Frank Mir beat Nogueira.
Brock Lesnar is slated to face the winner of that bout and he would be making a serious mistake if he overlooks the fact that he may be in store for a rematch against the man who has already beaten him.
I am a firm believer that there are two kinds of people in this world. There's the quitters and then are men like Francisco "Frank" Mir—who was almost killed in 2004 when a car hit his motorcycle.
Frank was born into a family of martial artists; his family ran a Kempo karate school. Frank saw his first UFC in 1993 (UFC No. 1) "The Beginning" which was dominated by a guy named Royce Gracie.
Frank was not yet convinced of the benefits in learning jiu jitsui.
"I could not believe it was happening! My dad wanted to learn what they were doing right off the bat, but I defended what I already knew. I thought I could adjust for it. I felt I could defend against jiu-jitsu instead of being humble and trying to learn it."
Mir faced Tim Sylvia for the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 48.
Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight at 50 seconds into the first round when Mir's standing armbar visibly broke Sylvia's right forearm in half.
With this TKO win, Mir became the new UFC heavyweight champion.
In 2004 Mir was knocked off his motorcycle by a car. The accident caused a break in Mir's leg and tore all the ligaments in his knee. The bone had broken in two places but didn't end Franks career.
It merely delayed what would become a very challenging comeback.
Major surgery was needed on Franks leg; so an interim heavyweight title was created whilst Mir was recovering from the injury.
This title was won by Andrei Arlovski and eventually regained by Big Tim Sylvia who then lost it again to Randy Couture.
I will admit that I was one of the people who thought that Frank would never be the same. After losing to newcomer Marcio Cruz and then Brandon Vera, I was certain he would never get another title shot.
I do believe Frank Mir is the true holder of the legitimate heavyweight belt, and in this article I explained why.
Part one of this article was written in August. Its about the fall and rise of Mir, a man with true heart, guts and extreme submission skills.
I'm a huge Mir fan and if he gets past Nogueira, I will be rooting for him to slay the monster known as Lesnar, one more time.

Good stuff, POTD. I'm also a huge fan of Mir, I was really upset when he lost to Vera, but then after the fight with Hardonk (which by the way was awesome), I knew he'd get back on top. I do believe that if Lesnar fought Mir again, that he would get caught in another submission. If Mir beats Nogueira, the he'll be facing Lesnar for his first title defense. Lesnar is going to be way too full of himself to look out for the sub, just like he was in the first fight. Lesnar has three people coming at him for that belt right now, Mir, Nogueira, and Gonzaga, and I don't think he's ready for any of them, this is about Mir though, not Lesnar. I believe that Mir will get back HIS title, mostly because I'm a big fan, but I also really think he can do it.

The sky is the limit for Brock Lesnar. If he stays focused and continues to train submission defense his wresling will nulify nearly anyones BJJ. Couture used his wrestling to beat Gonzaga, why wouldn't Brock be able to do the same?

Nice read, but the fact of the matter is that Frank will most likely not get past Nog. And by some miricle he does, Lesnar will not let the same thing happen twice. Everyone wants to see Lesnar vx. Nog, and chances are, that's what they will see. Assuming Mir loses, I'd like to see him go against someone like Couture or Gonzaga. Should Mir lose 3 fights in a row, it would most likely spell the end of his career and the no chance for Lesnar to revenge his loss.

I couldn't agree more. I too am a Frank Mir fan but I just can't see him beating Minotauro. Nog has better hands and probably better BJJ. It's just a bad match up for Mir.

Yeah, the Nogueira/Mir fight is gonna be a ground war and I believe that his jiu-jitsu is better than Mir's. Don't get me wrong, Mir is an awesome jiu-jitsu practitioner but Nogueira's on a different level. If he did manage to beat Nogueira, however, I don't believe he could catch Lesnar again. Had Lesnar not been called on the hit to the back of the head, he would have won that fight. I don't see Lesnar making that same mistake again. Hell, Lesnar has proven in each of his fights that he has enormous punching power and crazy reach and I'd actually expect Lesnar to keep a fight with either of these guys standing. I don't care who it is, but any fighter that stands in front of Lesnar long enough is going to take a nap.

I wonder if folks wonder how trim and fit Mir has looked lately. He had stated about a year ago the rehab on his knee is completely done with and it is 100%. This allows for him to fully train with no restrictions. He has more pop in his step and seems more athletic lately. I expect Mir to surprise some folks. He looks better than ever since his last loss. I dont expect him to beat Nog but who knows, thats why we watch right. Great read Stoker. Take care.

When I watched this video a while back, Lesner was winning easily and Mir looked like a little kid getting ganged up on. It was Lesner's inexperience that did him in. I believe Brock can beat Frank "IF" they fought again.

One of your best articles Stoker. Your writing has grown by leaps and bounds since I started reading it. Keep up the work and I believe lightening can strike twice. Its just not that likely. POTD

I like Mir, but he isnt gona Nog. I bet whoever has the better of the two takedowns will win the match which I believe is in Nogs court.

I agree with Brain it magical. That said I don't see The old Mir. I'm unimpressed with his coaching on TUF. I think the only one easier was Kenny boy. I don't see them pushing like they did in earlier season. Damn TV stars. I done thing that if Brock keep underestimating BJJ he will not be the champ for long.

I agree..jason we are of like minds my friend..if you notice the photo..mir need only grab lesnars wrist and bring his leg over lesnars head and he would have a nice armbar..lol..easy for me to say huh..lmao..

Dude, you're right, I never noticed that before. Lesnar has his arm hanging out there for the taking, and Mir's leg is already up at Lesnar's head. I have to imagine that Mir decided against pulling it out of fear that Lesnar just had too much power. I can't remember which fight it was, but I think a guy in Pride got knocked out while holding that armbar. A guy like Lesnar could probably pick Mir up and drop him on his head. Good point of noticing that though.

thanks yeah..its all happening so fast..Mir prolly got a thousand different sub moves running through his head...it could be a heel kick too that Mir wants..have to watch the video tape to know for sure.the leg lock came eventually..which i consider to be another indication of Franks ability to keep his cool while being stalked by a "Mountain Silverback Gorilla".. LMAO../STOKER

well, looks like everyone was wrong mir beat nog and i really do think that he can pull off another win against lesnar....subs are all abt levrage a position....Lesnar is too rowdy when he attacks....and thats what caused him to lose the first time .....he cant be so excited he would have to back off and play sum safe GnP in order to knock him out on his back....if mir pulls guard and holds brocks head down then for sure he could pull of a quick sub...def not a trianlge brock is way to big up to for that but an arm bar or oma plata def.....i tihnk mir is really back on top of his game and is stand up really above par again nog....Now do i tihnk he could bang it out with lesnar def not....i dont like lesnar at all but i dont see too many havyweight straight up banging it out with him....however i do see alot of submissions coming his way....and maybe he will learn eventually but that takes time u cant win two fight and be a champ esp after they threw u to mir thinking it would be an easy win for u and it back fired big time..... but point in all is if mir can weather the storm of brocks GnP long nuff to pull guard and sink in a slick submission i think all and all he will have is title back...and did the guy up top sau kimbo could whip ass in UFC yeah right he got owned by a reject from the UFC kimbo couldnt hang with the heavyweights here esp not sub wise or wrestler wise
