It has been announced that at Wembley, in front of 80,000 people, a battle of man vs machine will take place as triple Olympic cycling gold medallist Chris Hoy takes on the 2008 Formula One World Driver's Championship winner Lewis Hamilton.

Now, forgive me if I burst the bubble of anticipation, but isn't this going to be a tad one sided? I mean, Hamilton has over 500 brake horsepower while Chris Hoy has two and a half.

Now, I know that Hoy is a pretty good cyclist, probably the best in the world right now, but he is up against a hugely powerful car, being driven by arguably the greatest driver in the world right now.

They say that the winding track is going to prove something of a leveller, but come on! Hamilton is in a car. Hoy is on a bike. There can be only one winner!

Surely?

Well, perhaps there will a chance of a monumental upset. Perhaps the bike will be able to beat the car. Could it be a case of David v Goliath, where the huge underdog pulls off a win against all the odds?

Errmmm. No.

I point out again, and I stress this, Hamilton is in a CAR. Hoy is on a BIKE. If you want to get somewhere fast, you travel by car for a reason. It's faster.

Yes, I am aware that I have set myself up for a massive fall if proved wrong, and there is a chance I will end up with egg on my face, but that chance is very, very small.

So, get ready for Hamilton vs Hoy—the biggest sporting mis-match in history!

  1. Never know, he might have to stop to pay the congerstion charge after one lap....

    1. Haha! That's gotta be Hoy's only chance!

  2. Agree to an extent, the only thing I can see is that with all the tight corners in the track, Hamilton would be going slower than Hoy. that would indeedly be the only catch up time.
    Publicity stunt possibly?

    1. Publicity stunt definately! Especially as the Sports Personality of the Year is the same day!

  3. I dunno, I remember a Top Gear episode where the Hamster beat everyone getting through London on a bike. I have never been there, but that must say something about handling a small lightweight vehicle in tight places.

Besides, what are the rules for cutting corners? If Hoy goes in a straight line it would be no contest.

    1. Yeh I was thinking of mentioning that Top Gear, but that was through a crowded London in rush hour. This is just a race with no cars in the way slowing Hamilton down!

    2. No cars to slow him down? Not if the FIA have anything to do with it haha!!

      Thank god they don't.

Is anybody on here going to the ROC? I want to go but I hate going to London, the reason I missed MPH this year.

    3. Yeah, like I could get the time off from work, the family, afford the travel, etc. Love to go, but it ain't happening.

  4. as a cyclist i must say that a top class track cyclist will gain massive amounts of time on the curved part of the course but once they reach a straight away the car will regain that time. I believe it will be close but that the car will win
