Sometime during the spring of 1982, a little girl was born in Dallas County, Texas. Now, I know that there were probably hundreds or maybe thousands of female children born in April of that year, but one little girl was born with God-given talents that most females don't have.

She possessed the natural athtletic skills that would one day put her in the big spotlight. What spotlight, you ask? The spotlightof female MMA warriors in combat sports.

Gina Carano started her career in the sport of Muay Thai. After achieving a record of 12-1-1, Carano received an offer to participate in the first-ever sanctioned female MMA bout in Nevada. She was invited to the show in Las Vegas to fight Rosi Sexton from England.

She fought on the Feb. 10, 2007, Showtime card, defeating Julie Kadzie via unanimous decision in what was called "the fight of the night."

Even the great female boxer Laila Ali would no doubt take a backward step to Carano. Carano has been named as the face of women's MMA. And from this guy's point of view, it's damn good viewing. Easy on the eyes, if you know what I mean...

And that beautiful face is sitting on a 5'8" frame that has more than enough firepower to knock out most men that I know. Carano has been knocked by the media for not being able to make weight. The way I see it, Carano is 5'8", she will be just as great if she moves up a weight division (which she has hinted at doing.)

Carano is currently undefeated at 7-0 and is supposed to meet her biggest test so far in Christianne Santos Cyborg. The two are now expected to meet early next year on  EliteXC promotion's first pay-per-view event. She has also been offered some movie rolls, and has dabbled in acting, as well.

Carano also stars on American Gladiators (crush). I hope I don't sound too chauvinistic when I say this, but I could sit and watch her all day on the screen, no matter what she was doing.

Still, my true wish would be for her to stay in MMA and turn that 7-0 into 17-0.

  1. Hey Stoker,

I am from West Texas and have been to Dallas on many occasions. Thats how they grow 'em down there! Let me know if you ever want to take a visit and I will show you the ropes =) Good tribute to this lovely and dangerous Texas Gal.

  2. Thank you B, I truly respect your opinion...keep up the great work buddy..your already showing me the ropes in the fighting category..congrats on #1 position!!

  3. Yes, Gina showed real grit by being patient in the clinches against her tenacious, hedgehog look-alike opponent who was constantly bulling her into the fence to avoid strikes (to little avail). Gina's front kick and those vicious muay thai knee strikes are downright scary. And her punching combination's...well, I'm no pushover at a 51-year-old, rock-hard 175-pound tennis player and arm-wrestler LOL, but let's just say that Gina Carano would ice me fast and mercifully even if I were 25-years-old and stupid.

For the sake of MMA's future, hopefully far removed from that sweat-shop known as the UFC, lets hope that Gina Carano forgoes all that glamor-shot modeling and acting distractions and gets focused on the task at hand: winning and making Dana White sweat a little.

  4. yaehhh..Joseph!!!!..thats what aahmm .. talkin bout!! great comment thanks for taking the time my friend!!/Stoker.

  5. And I would love to see Laila Ali try her hand at MMA. Imagine an EleteXC carnival headliner called:

"Bathing Beauties Brawl in the Bayou! ~CARANO VS ALI~ LIVE only on CBS!"

  6. Amen brother...

I do think Carano will have to fight at a higher weight going forward. For one she always has trouble making weight and she also looked dehydrated and out of it at the weigh ins.

I also think she's going to have some problems with cyborg if they ever decide to give us that fight. I think EliteXC is fully aware of it too and they will likely milk it as long as they can. Hopefully cyborg will not permanenly do damage to her face.

  7. haha..thats my fear also....thanks for the comment bro../stoker

  8. Yes, absolutely Gina Carano should step up a weight-class. She certainly has the height and bone structure for a bump up in weight. She's a terrific striker from the outside and she shows solid take-down defense. And should Cyborg or any other wild brawler type opponent try to get inside dirty box Gina, they'll be in for a Wanderlei style Muay Thai knee-fest that might make them rethink their MMA career.

  9. Gina=Good MMA fighter. Cyborg=Good MMA Fighter. Will be a good fight. Oh and Brian...good comment man. I've been to Texas once, and it's amazing. I want a good ol' Texan girl for my wifey...hahaha. Oh, *ahem* back to MMA....Gina's good.

  10. Nick,

I think you, stoker and I need to head down to West Texas/Dallas. The girls there are very friendly! What part did you visit? Ironically I move up to NYC and end up with a Long Island girl. Go figure...

I finally got her to admit that Gina was a babe and she is starting to like MMA via watching her fight and watching the new season of TUF. I think MMA really needs to tap into this female market.

  11. ..IM GAME....LOL
