Alright, I think by now we all know about Kimbo getting wrecked by Seth Petruzelli. Was anyone really that shocked? Wait, let me rephrase. Was any educated MMA fan really that shocked that an internet sensation's 15 minutes of fame ended in less than 15 seconds?
Seriously, why is it that I've seen like 50 articles on this topic on BR alone, and all are saying the same thing. Also, why is nobody talking about the potential showdown between two of the best female fighters in the world facing off for the vacant Elite XC womens championship?
Last Saturday the two best fights of the night did not include one single guy. One of them wasn't even aired. Cyborg Santos' overall man handling, sorry, woman handling of Yoko Takahashi was "fight of the night" in my opinion. Yoko showed amazing heart and never said die. It may have been a lopsided victory, with one judge scoring it 30-26, but it was a great fight none-the-less.
While Cyborg showed why she may be the woman to beat Gina Carano, Gina was showing why she is still the face of women's MMA. A very feisty Kelly Kobald gave her all, even winning a round in the eyes of one judge, but her best was not enough to dethrone the queen.
Both women showed fantastic chins. How surprised were you when you had to wait until the end of the 3rd round to see Gina start using her patented push kick. I still find it amazing that even after trading punches for nine minutes, (may I ask why we could have seen 15 minutes of Kimbo, but we can't see 15 minutes of Carano?) Gina looked nothing short of fantastic.
Honestly, Kelly looked like she got hit by a 90 mph fastball, while Gina looked like she did when she first entered into the cage.
This sets up a fight that, if Elite XC wasn't being run by absolute idiots suckling at the power teet of Kimbo Slice, should be hyped up as the main event of the next Elite XC on CBS show.
After watching Kimbo Slice get knocked out in 14 seconds, by a guy that only hardcore MMA fans know about, does anyone really want to watch this sham of a fighter fight again? I will say this right now and I'm not joking at all.
If I hear that Kimbo Slice is fighting in the main event of the next CBS show, I will officially boycott this disgrace of an organization.
There are only three fights that I want to see that only Elite XC can put together. KJ Noons vs. Nick Diaz 2, Frank Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz 2, and Gina Carano vs. Cyborg Santos in a match that I hope will be five 5-minute rounds. Hopefully, these fights take place before Elite XC goes out of business. HAHA.
Sorry, I just find it funny that a company millions of dollars in debt paid a talentless and unproven fighter $500,000, and would have given him 100,000 more had he won.
But I digress. Lets look at the match-up. Gina Carano is probably the only known woman fighter in the world to novice fans. This American Gladiator is 7-0 with three TKO/KO victories, one submission and three unanimous decisions to her credit.
The face of women's MMA is a very powerful Muay Thai fighter who is the only fighter I've seen really utilize push kicks. If only this girl could make weight. Tisk tisk.

In the future the Women should have top billing on the fight card because from the very first show they have been the most interesting competitors. While you may feel that it is laughable that EXC paid Kimbo 500,000 for his fight, I find it ludicrous that the women were paid 25,000 (Gina) and Cyborg less than half of that. Shameful, even if they are bankrupt!

I agree. You pay 1,000,000 dollars between 2 guys, but the face of women mma and the one woman that can beat her,make not even 40 grand. Muffed to say the least

I've got to agree. Carano shouldn't have to worry about taping American Gladiators if she truly is the face of women's MMA. She should be able to make a good living and not have to moonlight. Hopefully, this will be corrected soon.

As unfair as it may be, this difference in pay isn't about to change. The men draw more, period. I for one would love to see a Woman's division in the UFC, but it probably won't happen.

Who cares if it is in EXC as long as they are treated with respect. In my opinion, more people are tuning in to see them tahn the men on CBS. The pay outs need to be much better though, IMO.

The promotion company most certainly has an influence on the draw for women Dorothy. In all honesty, a woman's bout in the UFC would draw more than EXC, thus raises the pay rate for women. If you had a Woman's Championship bout on the same card as say Lesnar vs. Couture, they would draw 200% more.

We'd like to pretend for a while that Cyborg doesn't exist, so we can just like Gina and pretend she is #1.

my thoughts exactly. I mean are there no more women out there for Carano to fight? Must she now fight a man? Cyborg is a man. She looks like a man, and hits like a man. Forget drug testing before the fight, I want DNA testing done before Gina gets severely hurt fighting this man.

Let's face it. Besides Gina being an attractive woman, women MMA fights are boring to watch. Three 3-minute rounds? Maybe it's just me but the women fights do nothing for me.

Dorothy, certainly with all due respect, there is no way that more people are turning out to see the women fight than the men. sure there are a number of womn fighters out there who havent yet been noticed, but the competition in womens mma isnt nearly as stiff as it is in the mens realm.
i must admit the womens fights that i have seen have been pretty solid, and i would choose to watch them any day instead of a farce like kimbo.
however...can you really imagine putting these womens fighters up against male fighters of a similar size?

Yep. Gina Carano is definitely a television draw, but nothing even remotely close to what Kimbo Slice pulls. This is a proven fact.
She is, however, a better fighter. :-)

Listen, all conflicts aside, good question here. Gina has looked a little sluggish in her last 2 fights and Cyborg has looked ferocious. But, Gina's competition, as their records indicate, has been on another level. Cyborgs opponents have mostly been mediocre fighters and Ginas have been all but unstoppable until they meet her. This should be the main event on whatever promotions card that will replace ELITE.

I am an avid MMA fan, and must say that I would fight Gina Carano in a street fight any day of the week. I am not impressed. Perhaps some of her opponents are intimidated by her in name alone (as she is easily the most well known female fighter around), causing a less than perfect performance. Another possibility is that no one wants to mess up that pretty face. Cyborg is another story, however. She has something to prove - she is FAST and POWERFUL like no girl I've ever seen. I wouldn't fight her. She can have my lunch money! My money is on the Brazilian!!!

I think that doing the mouth-karate thing is not the best way to give your opinion about any fighter. I think that you should not talk about them without respect - not even those whom you happen to dislike...they all work very hard.
I assume that any person who is a real-life (Mixed) Martial Arts practitioner sees that Gina Carano is an awfully talented female fighter. You could see it in all her previous fights...Gina might not be undefeated forever, but hey, nothing and nobody is perfect. And please, don't think that her opponents were intimidated by her name....she is not that huge fighter herione yet :).
Cris Cyborg is also a highly talented destroyer :), but in her case I suspect that she would need to be tested on steroids/drugs before fighting...I hope I am mistaken and that her incredible aggression in the ring, her strength and speed are all natural...
Anyways, I can't wait to see the two ladies fight each other! :)
