World Football, EPL, Wayne Rooney , Frank Lampard , Fernando Torres, Joe Cole, Rankings/List

Here are my top five players from matchday seven of the Barclay's Premier League:

5) Fernando Torres, Liverpool

OK, not the best all-round performance from the Spaniard, but he did score two crucial goals and was pivotal in Liverpool's fantastic comeback against City.

4) Roman Bednar, West Bromwich Albion

Again, the Czech striker has made it onto my list—deservedly so. After enduring a fairly difficult first half, Bednar responded brilliantly, being a nightmare for the Fulham defence with shots left, right and center. It was a great performance and one that should've seen him score more than just one goal.

3) Boaz Myhill, Hull City

A little bit of an unsung hero at Hull City. Yet another great performance from the Welsh goalkeeper to give his side another clean sheet and all three points at White Hart Lane. He didn't have much to do, but he saved well when called into action and controlled his defence brilliantly. Forget Geovanni, Hull City fans—this man is the real reason for your success.

2) Wayne Rooney, Manchester United

As Manchester United's performances have picked up over the last few matches, so have Rooney's. The England striker was again outstanding as he scored three goals in three games to ensure all three points for United at Ewood Park. He deservedly won the man of the match award.

1) Frank Lampard, Chelsea

Yet again another great performance from Chelsea and from Lampard. The England midfielder was back to his best yesterday with a magnificent performance to ensure all three points for the Blues. Lampard was involved in several of Chelsea's countless opportunities, and made the assist for Joe Cole's opener. He also could've had several goals himself.  Despite not scoring, he fully deserved his man of the match award and the top spot on my list.

  1. As always mate great article.

    1. thanks mate :)

  2. nice list yoosof. I think Crouch should have been included for that ridiculous volley he scored.

    1. thanks rafal. yeah crouch's goal was good, and if torres didn't score twice he might've been on the list.

  3. Good list Yoosof. Lampard was brilliant again on Sunday. He never stopped running and ran the midfield. He's been our player of the season so far and I just hope he can keep up his great form.

    1. thanks alan. yeah lampard has been rather impressive this season, as have chelsea. i'm sure he will keep up his good form and could be key in chelsea's title hopes.

  4. I still can't understand why Lampard didn't play brilliantly at the last World Cup. He seems to be an outstanding member of such a cosmopolitan side every week.

    1. he plays well at chelsea because he can form a good partnership with his midfielders, but when it comes to playing with england, he's always in the centre with steven gerrard and those two don't work well together in midfield. anyway, thanks for the response illya!

    2. These things happen Ilya...

If it wasnt for Lampard, England would have most likely not even been at the WC. Scoring 8 goals in the last 7 qualifying matches - including the winner against Poland, in the game that secured WC participation - Lampard was the one player that delievered when England needed him. I dont get people that bash for Englands failure at a tournament, he was largely responsible for getting them there in the first place. Yes, he had a disaster tournament. Yes, he had the most shots off target in the whole tournament. But Gerrard was the teams best player and he had an average tournament at best. At Euro 2004, he was England's best performers along with Rooney.

Dont forget he was voted fans player of the year TWO years running, due to his performance for Chelsea AND England...

Lampard's bashers needs to get a reality check because the man is a class act and putting him down is only gonna make him better....

    3. good point salomon, he is a class act and that's why he topped my list last weekend, because against villa he was a class act.

    4. mate I am not a Lampard basher, I love his style and his dedication to continually improve his game. I think he is one of the best midfielders I have seen come out of Europe ever. I was reiterating the surprise I had at watching the last world cup and Lampard.

  5. 5. Peter Crouch (Pompey)

    4. Geovanni (Hull City)

    3. Steven Ireland (Man City)

    2. Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

    1. Fernando Torres (Liverpool)

    1. i don't think torres played that well, but nonetheless thanks for the comment.

    2. Nice choice sam, I would have picked the same list, get out of my head!?!?! :O)

    3. really ricky? you think torres played that well? just because he scored twice doesn't mean he was the best player last weekend. players like rooney and lampard played much better in their games compared to him.

    4. Did you watch the full game or the 4 and a half minute edit of the match on match of the day Yoosof?

    5. i watched the full game actually. i wouldn't argue my case so much had i not watched the full game, don't think i'm that stupid mate. torres was not the best player in the epl this weekend, there were four players who put in more effort and created more than what torres did. he's a superb finisher and scored two great goals, but that was it. he didn't work as hard as rooney or bednar, and i know that because have seen a lot of the action last weekend, and not just the four and a half minute edits on MotD. i saw united's game in full, and i saw liverpool's game in full.

    6. Well your own poll says otherwise mate,

can't believe I'm dragging this on it was almost a week ago!

  6. Myhill is American, at least according to Football Manager 08 :/

I agree except for the exclusion of Geovanni and Kuyt.
They replace Torres and Rooney imo.

    1. no trust me he's welsh, look it up on wikipedia. anyway, thanks for the comment, and sorry i wasn't in school for english with you today!

    2. I guess he wasn't capped at that point, I'll go with good old wikipedia this time :)

  7. its not that torres scored two goals that i chose to put him on top of my list.. he has shown pretty good form and has scored 4 in two games now which is remarkable. Upfront he causes panic in the defence, he could have scored a hat trick in both games, he has just been superb and his finishing is amazing.

He has looked so good upfront especially against city in the second half man was he all over citys defence

    1. i didn't mean to suggest that was the reason why, but although for me torres played well and scored two crucial goals, his all-round play wasn't as good as wayne rooney for example. and yes you could then argue that is not what torres does, track back like rooney does, but then that would mean he wasn't working as hard as rooney, and that is exactly why he is not at the top of my list, and why other forwards like rooney and bednar are above him on my list. he scored 4 in 2 games, but it doesn't mean he was working his socks off on both those games, and he causes panick in the defence because he is a superb finisher, not that he's working extremely hard. the players who top my list are the ones who put that extra bit of effort in and create the goals, not just score them.

  8. Ricks Im glad u agree with me about my choice of Torres being number one for last week wasnt he jsut amazing throughout the game!!

    1. no he wasn't. he scored to two crucial goals, but that was about it. you cannot say is all-round play was great and no way was he the best in the epl last weekend.

  9. haha dude in my perspective not yours... everyone has their own view so if u think lampard was the best then good for you lad

me and ricks on th other hand think Torres was magnificent

    1. ok fair enough. we'll call an end to this heated yet rather fun debate. don't forget roman bednar, he was outstanding last weekend, yet unfortunately his performances get unnoticed.

  10. yup yup super good was ROMAN:)

  11. Lampard was the best player in the premiership in week seven, end of

    1. rooney was second best, myhill third best, bednar fourth best, and TORRES FIFTH BEST!! END OF!!!!!!

  12. This was the week we drew with sunderland. I think that the players you picked were correct but mabye Myhill could of been higher

    1. yeah i didn't know whether to put him above rooney or not. again this weekend he was fantastic, he is an unsung hero at hull city. anyway, thanks for the comment :)

  13. great article, although i dont agree with lampard being number 1, well he is a great player. but then again im a liverpool supporter, so i would say this.
Anyway a great article here yoosof, keep it up x

    1. i'm not going to get into the heated debate i got into with ricky and sam again lol, but i disagree and that weekend i think lampard was the best player. anyway, thanks for the comment rosie, and thanks for the positivity :)
