BABY'S LOSERS 10/11/08
1) LSU @ FLORIDA
Let's put all the talk aside here. This is a battle between the past two national champions. In the best game of the year, Baby's Loser in Overtime, LSU.
2) PENN STATE @ WISCONSIN
Last week we all watched the giant hulks that stalk Camp Randall. If the Badgers control the line they will win. Baby's Loser, Wisconsin.
3) ARIZONA STATE @ SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Prior to the season this game would settle the PAC10. Now it is two teams with one conference loss. Baby's Loser, Ariz. St.
4) TENNESSEE @ GEORGIA
The word around town is that Fulmer knows how to handle Richt. Are the Bulldogs tough enough to rebound and win one? Baby's Loser, Tennessee.
5) MINNESOTA @ ILLINOIS
Ol' Zook isn't ready to hand over that repeat trip to the Rose Bowl just yet. The 5-1 Golden Gophers play 'em tough. Baby's Loser, Minnesota.
6) SOUTH CAROLINA @ KENTUCKY
The old ball coach heads up to bluegrass-land to take on the surprising Wildcats who nearly took out Alabama. Baby's Loser, Kentucky.
7) NEBRASKA @ TEXAS TECH
What will it be Cornhuskers? Lay down and quit, or stand up like the great teams of 1962-2001? Leach's marauders await. Baby's Loser, Nebraska.
GAME OF THE WEEK
8)OKLAHOMA VS. TEXAS @ THE COTTON BOWL
Red River Shootout! State Fair Game! Border War! Plenty of adjectives to describe this great and intense rivalry over the years.
I like to pull the leg of the Texas fans in my articles but they know I respect the Longhorns. What they may not realize is that I've been a longtime fan of the burnt Orange, long before most of them were a twinkle in their Daddy's eye.
I had Oklahoma No. 2 in my preseason poll, and simply moved them up to No. 1 when Sou Cal collapsed at Oregon State.
Both have great players, excellent coaching, intense defenses and either could win the national championship this season. Colt McCoy is a sensational quarterback but, I give a slight edge to Sam Bradford in this clash of titans. Baby's Loser, in a close one, Texas.

I expect a full article about how Texas is the best team in the nation on Sunday, Oct 12th!
And write this down.... Texas 28 OU 24
from 3 months ago
That might be the score. And if Texas wins, they will move past the #1 Sooners in my 11 Best 11s.
Now give me the other 7 Losers and were good to add you to the group for next Saturday !
Thanks for the input Chase.

OK then
My LOSERS:
Florida- They are just so unorganized
Wisconsin
Arizona State
Tennessee
Minnesota
South Carolina
Nebraska
And the biggest loser of them all.... OU.... "GET YOUR ACRONYM CORRECT!"

Golden Gophers to go down to Zook while the Gators lose to LSU? That makes for a sad night in Gainesville.
Going with Texas at a neutral site, not a bad idea. You think Carolina will lose to Kentucky? What about Spurrier's defense, ranked #1 in the country going into this past weekend? You might have a sleeper there. Looks like you don't have much faith in Phil Fulmer this weekend.
How much food does it take to supply the needs of Wisconsin's offensive line?
Thanks Chase !

Someone has to pick the underdogs...
Mitch's losers-
1) Florida- I saw a great interview with Les Miles after the Auburn game and they asked him what his strategy was coming in, he answered "To win the football game". Good answer.
2)Penn State-I'll keep picking against Joe Pa and picking the Badgers and stay in last place.
3)Arizona State-I don't think the Trojans lose outright to 2 25 point dogs in 1 season.
4)Tennesee-Fulmer looks like he's been eating too much now as well.
5)Illinois-Juice Williams was my pre season Heisman pick, I'm sticking with him.
6)South Carolina-And we have our second 3-2 game of the year in the SEC.
7)Texas Tech-Just to piss their fans off really, no other reason.
8)Texas-Still not really sure but if it comes down to a call it will be Mack Brown whining on the sideline. We don't get a lot of Sooner Nation here and they have a monster presence on the net but if we did they would respond to my comment with a blurb about the Oregon onside kick, the refs have been making it up to them ever since.
from 3 months ago
Mitch, I've come to the conclusion that Les Miles is an overseer who recruits the best players and then says "go get 'em". Obviously a key man in determining the national champion as his Tigers are so consistent, and don't get confused with unnecessary game plans.
Penn State is #2 in the 11 Best 11s for the 2nd straight week and you're saying this is the game they go down. it just could be, Wisconsin seems unlikely to lose 3 in a row.
One of the most astonishing items of the Bleacher Report is the complete lack of Oklahoma presence and I've been saying that for 2 months now. You say they still have a "monster presence" on the web and that is what I was used to in the past. Mitch, really so much so, that you couldn't have a thought otherwise, it was almost a cult like atmosphere following Stoops and the Sooners. One of the Texas fans, Michael, has stated to me that the OU people are basically smart-aleks. I quit pulling for Oklahoma because of the behavior of their internet fan base in 2004.
Juice Williams of Illinois has a great shot at the Heisman, particulary if Chase Daniel of Missouri gets caught up in "DirtyGate" regarding this past week's remarks about Nebraska.
Thanks Mitch, you are a trooper!
from 3 months ago
And until we win a BCS bowl game again, you probably won't hear too much trash from us. Anytime an OU fan starts talking trash on ESPN messageboards, the response is always a comment about our bowl losses. And we don't have a comeback for that. Am I excited that we are #1 in the polls right now? Heck yeah! But I'm waiting for us to finish the season with a win before I talk too much.
I'm surprised it was 2004 and not 2003's fan behavior that did it. We were so arrogant before K State humbled us. We had some really close wins in 2004 and should have seen the writing on the wall with our soft secondary.
from 3 months ago
Daniel,
I go on Sooner Nation and a lot of those guys really know their stuff, like old school and while they used to not like me too much for some of the stuff I've written I happened to see Buster Rhymes play in High School and threw his name out in an argument (with the obligatory Elvis Peacock) and they almost invited me over for dinner. I have to say the Casey Stoddard to Texas post by the Sooner people (no offense Michael) was one of the funniest threads in internet college football history.
That being said I haven't been there since the season started but maybe I'll pop by and see what's up. If you go there I'm Miami Mitch as I am on just about every team's site.
BT, there are a lot of reasons why the big fan bases don't come over to Bleacher and I honestly believe the biggest reason is that while Bleacher has some of the best young talented writers on the planet it lacks a lot of people who have really seen it all. You are one of the very few as most of the historical reference articles written by the younger guys are pieces they should have left alone as it is very obvious they don't understand what pre scholarship limitation vs. the new college football is all about (I'm sure they have no idea what that sentence even means). I also think there are too many thin skinned rah rah bandwagon jumpers and those sites I refer to as you know like swampgas, grassy, bucknuts, tigernet, soonernation, etc. can be pretty rough on outsiders with limited knowledge and respect for history.
from 3 months ago
Mitch, you trying to say I'm old?
I have thought about the Oklahoma situation and believe you are on target but, why are there so many 30-something Alabama fans? And I'll tell you something else, what happened to the old Fla State nation? You being a Miami fan should realize they used to be everywhere.
Daniel is right about 2003, it was 2003 pre- Kansas State when the Sooners were full of themselves but, it was 2004 when I picked them preseason #1 and stayed with them all year without really cheering for them. I believe Oklahoma calmed down after the loss to Sou Cal, didn't really hear much from them.
I used to host a Sports Room on AOL in the 1990s (there was a theory that one day several people may even discuss sports online) and the Nebraska fans were "untakeable" (that's not a word but it fits). There has never been anything like the 1990s Nebraska online fans. One Cornhusker even told me that the "modern era of college football" began in 1962 and that nothing mattered before then. I pointed out to him that his definition coincided with Bob Devaney coming over from Wyoming and turning Nebraska into a national power. He said that was a coincidence. The '97 Cornhuskers were unreal in their abuse of other fans online.
Anyhow, like most things, you are right on the money. You know Mitch, you are a treat to speak with.

Picking a "loser" is so disrespectful (not to mention it confuses me). So I will go with winners, and this will be the easiest week yet. I can't miss.
Winners:
LSU (in a walk, tigers love gator meat)
Wisconsin (because they can pass and run)
USC (if they don't have sleeping-pill residual)
Georgia (I want so bad to pick Tennessee)
Illinois
South Carolina
Texas Tech
Okies from Norman
from 3 months ago
Don't admit you were confused about picking the loser.
The Gators love Tiger meat. Florida has dominated LSU throughout the past 20 years, winning 15 of the last 20 games, and owning a 28-23 alltime edge over LSU.
Wisconsin over Penn State? That's a huge upset special.
Carolina all the way over kentucky.
Down goes Nebraska for the 3rd week in a row!
Thanks for the picks Roy, we'll see how it all goes!

LSU may be 5-15 for the past 20 trys but we are 4-2 since Spurrier left FL, those days are (hopefully) long behind us.

Penn State
USC
Georgia
Minnesota
Kentucky
Texas Tech
Oklahoma

This one is perhaps the hardest line-up to date. Here's my best shot at picking the LOSERS:
1) LSU - In Baton Rouge I'd have the Tigers winning. I've seen them play once this year against a very not good Auburn offense. Florida will score too many points to edge it out in a close game. More on my SEC Weekly Rundown.
2) Wisconsin - the Badgers losing three striaght just doesn't seem right, but neither does picking against JoePa. He almost won 'em all in 05. I think he has a real chance of doing it this year.
3) Arizona State - USC is back in the saddle, this time for good (at least to the bowl game).
4) UT- UGA will bite Smokey, hard!
5) Minnesota - Gophers will be runniong for their hole in the ground.
6) Kentucky - Spurrier has the Gamecocks back to winning. They almost pulled it off against UGA earlier in the year. More on this in my weekly rundown.
7) Nebraska - They're just not quite there yet.
8) Texas - In a VERY close game!
from 3 months ago
Timothy, thanks for checking in with your picks and giving us a small preview of your SEC column. I was used to you being one of the very first to give the picks.
I'm taking your article about the LSU-Auburn game to heart. You said there were some weaknesses in LSU. I'm going out on a limb with your info and taking them to lose to Florida.
Minnesota lost to Ohio St after winning their first 4. So how did the Gophers respond? They beat Indiana to go 5-1, that's good coaching, and players that listen to what they're taught.
Georgia lost to Alabama and they've almost dropped off the planet. I believe Nick Saban should visit Georgia and paraphrase his statement of last week for the Bulldogs: Does anyone remember who who lost a game on 9/27 last year?? Georgia Wake Up ! Tennessee hates Georgia, if the Vols beat Richt again he'll never hear the end of it. If that happens, Georgia might want to hire the Minnesota coach!
Thanks Timothy !

Here we go...my losers:
1) I'm sorry UF, but I just can't trust you, even though you played well in a look-ahead game in the fourth quarter against Arkansas. LSU had a hard fought win against Auburn a couple of weeks ago, and LSU is still undefeated. I see LSU losing later this year, but my loser this week is FLORIDA.
2) Hmmm....let me think. I'm a die hard Penn State fan, PSU may be the best team in the nation, Wisconsin may be angry and play better after a tough loss against Ohio State, or they might be exhausted after an emotional game. Should my loser be Penn State? Haha...I'm just kidding...I can't go against my own team, and even if I wasn't a fan, my loser would still be WISCONSIN.
3) Ummm...USC still doesn't impress me, but I don't think Arizona State is good...I should take ASU in an upset, but my loser will be ARIZONA STATE. Sorry guys, but I will be rooting for ASU, mostly because I hate how USC is like the media's first child, always getting the love and attention.
4) Tennessee...you're just bad. Always losing and I see the Dawgs redeeming themselves here...TENNESSEE is my loser.
5) Illinois is very good, PSU just thrashed them because the Nittany Lions are great. Minnesota is overrated and never beats anyone, except Indiana who is pathetic except for that one speedster. My loser is MINNESOTA.
6) After UK almost beat Bama, this could easily be an upset...but Ol' Ball Coach should be able to handle them. My loser...SOUTH CAROLINA!!! Uh-oh! Upset special!!! Go Kentucky, go 'Cats!
7) I am not sold on Texas Tech, but after seeing Missouri, who has a great offense and no defense, dismantle Nebraska, I just can't see Nebraska as a good team. I thought they might be good at the beginning of the season, but I was wrong. I don't think Texas Tech is good, and they will lose at least 2, if not 3 or 4 games this year, but not this one. My loser is...NEBRASKA. I don't think TTU will blow 'em out like Mizzou did, but it won't be close.
8) This is a HUGE game. This game may decide the Big 12, but not if offensive power Missouri has anything to say about this. Still, I think Mizzou will definitely lose to OU and maybe to Texas...did I just give away which team is better? Does that mean that OU will win? NOT SO FAST!!! Upset special...my loser is..............OKLA...................................................................................................TEXAS!!!!!! Fooled ya!
I'm going undefeated this week, trust me.
from 3 months ago
So you're going with Texas and Florida to lose, Minnesota and South Caroliona to lose. Those are all competitive games.
Not surprised you went with Penn St to trim Wisconsin but, you think Texas Tech might lose 4 games this year? Holy Smoke !
Tennessee has a chance to beat Georgia because Georgia's fanbase has appeared to retire since the Alabama game. Please Georgia, wake up, if not for your sake then the sake of Spurrier's strength of schedule !
Arizona State? They're in the same boat with Georgia! Their problem is blaming everything on Georgia!
from 3 months ago
TTU could lose to Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and maybe even A&M. They will probably lose 2 or 3 of those 5 games, but with their defense, it could easily be 4.
I would pick Texas, but Dallas is not their homefield. Even though it is still basically home advantage for them, I'm sure it'll be almost half OU fans, so with the crowd even, OU has the advantage. I'm still not sure of Florida, but if they beat LSU, I'll think they're good. I'm not sure of LSU, and the Gators don't lose much in the Swamp. I really don't think either are championship contenders, but LSU is still undefeated, and I don't think the crowd will get to them because they were fine at Auburn, so I go with the undefeated team there.
Illinois' offense is just too much for Minnesota, and I would be surprised if Minnesota got 7 or 8 wins this year. Kentucky didn't look like a great team against Bama, but they still almost beat them, and South Carolina is good, but sometimes you have to go with the upsets. The past few years have been years of upsets, and that's why I go with Kentucky here.
I don't think Tennessee is good. Last year was the beginning of their downfall, with the exception of a well played game against LSU, and this year is not looking good for them. I think the Dawgs will continue to get better, even when they lose Stafford and Moreno.
Arizona State hasn't proven anything to me yet, and USC lost to Oregon State, but after blowing out Oregon, I can't chance picking an upset here. The Oregon State upset is still fresh in the USC minds, and they will not lose this game.
Also, you have Texas and Minnesota to lose also. Those were wise choices by you. Don't be so quick to jump on the Minnesota bandwagon as so many people do when they go 4-0 out of conference and then maybe win one easy conference game and are ranked. Minnesota will soon show its true colors. If I'm wrong, then maybe they did change from a bad team to a good team.
finally an ounce of respect. I have no problem with pple picking OU over us, but until Texas Tech actually performs up to their capabilities (which I still feel would make them third in the south), you will be labeled as crazy for ranking them above us.

Texas Tech will be 2nd in the South after Saturday.

REDRAIDERS'S LOSERS 10/11/08
1) LSU @ FLORIDA
Not this year, LSU. RedRaiders's Loser, LSU.
2) PENN STATE @ WISCONSIN
Penn State seems to be a contender this year. The badgers dont lose many at Camp Randall either. Still... RedRaider's Loser, Wisconsin.
3) ARIZONA STATE @ SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Lol.. Rudy "Sack" Carpenter. RedRaider's Loser, Ariz. St.
4) TENNESSEE @ GEORGIA
Last year TN managed to beat the Dawgs but this year its gonna be different. RedRaider's Loser, Tennessee.
5) MINNESOTA @ ILLINOIS
Not even close. RedRaider's Loser, Minnesota.
6) SOUTH CAROLINA @ KENTUCKY
This is a tough one. Will have to go with.... RedRaider's Loser, SCarolina.
7) NEBRASKA @ TEXAS TECH
Will the Cornhuskers avenge their first homecoming defeat in 36 yrs handed to them by the Red Raiders in 2005 by beating the Red Raiders on THEIR homecoming? FAT CHANCE. RedRaider's Loser, Nebraska.
There you go, Baby. Howzzat?
from 3 months ago
Thanks Red Raider. Appreciate that. Wish you had taken Carolina to win from a personal standpoint but I'm more interested in your Illinois-Minnesota comment. You think that Minnesota will lose big. I'm wondering if this is one of those games that seem to happen each year where an up and coming team (Golden Gophers) defeats a better team who has just played two big games. So, are you taking Texas over Oklahoma after giving the matter further thought?
from 3 months ago
To be honest Baby, I dont know much abt SC and UK. Thats why I said its a tough one.
About the MN - IL game, I really don't think MN is upto it and wont be able to beat Juice Williams and co. in their own den.
IL put up one hell of a fight against Mizzou and I know 1 year makes a diff but 1-11 (0-8)? Real tough to put a team like that on your win list. Hoping for a MN win though... one of my good frnd is a Golden Gopher!
About the OU-TX thing... not touching it with a 20 ft pole.

You've got LSU to pull Florida down. Do you think they are too physical for the Gators or is it something else? Like to hear from our resident expert.
Thanks !
from 3 months ago
The LSU / Florida game will be a great game to watch, and it was a toss-up. LSU has the advantage with their physical play, but Florida's offense might decide to show up for this one, and if Florida's defense plays well, this one might go the other way. I still favor LSU up front...they've got some hosses on the o and d line. I think they'll give Tebow fits.

My winners for this week:
LSU - Too much defense for the Gators. Two losses in a row in the Swamp? Hmmm. I could be wrong.
Penn State - The Nittany Lions looks pretty sharp so far this year, this will be a good measuring stick.
USC - The Trojans will run through the Sun Devils with the quickness.
Georgia - I'm throwing my Karma Card out the window. Beat the Vols, Dawgs. Please.
Illinois - Is it possible that Minnesota is better than Michigan?
Kentucky - Sorry Steve. Start packing your bags, say goodbye to Hilton Head and Augusta National. FORE!
Texas Tech - I'll stop picking Texas Tech when they play Texas.
Oklahoma - Finally...they actually play a real team.
I knew I shouldn't have picked Oregon last week, BT. Those losers.
from 3 months ago
You should be OK with the karma this week versus the Vols. Throwing Spurrier out? What about Spurrier Junior? This was all for him to get a job when Pop retired!
Minnesota can beat Michigan this year and win the the Little Brown Jug!
Another SEC voice for LSU to beat Florida. You guys must be on to something.
Thanks Robert !
Well my #1 spot lasted as long as... Pete Carroll's. But I was too happy to break .500 to notice, the way many of those games were so close. Also, it is interesting that all the top 5 missed Navy. I guess we have some group-think going. If so, from the look of things, no one is expecting a lot of upsets. Could make things interesting.
Winners:
1. Florida- The toughest pick of the week. I'd say Florida has everything it takes to win on paper, but somehow that doesn't quite carry over to the field. In a toss-up, Florida gets its act together in the familiarity of the Swamp and Tebow plays like the Heisman winner he is.
2. Penn State- I've barely seen Penn State play at all, but I've been impressed by Illinois. PSU's win over the Illini was very convincing. Plus, I still think Wisconsin is overrated. Three losses wouldn't be at all surprising.
3. USC- I hope it's a close one. The Trojans have great talent, but someone's got to keep ABC/ESPN in line. Oregon State couldn't shut them up for more than a week, while Ohio State was beneath contempt after their one loss. If I hear one more announcer singing the Trojans' praises...
4. Georgia- I'm still not buying the "Tennessee is totally terrible" stock. I am, however, buying the "Georgia is going to be great" stock. Should be a close one, if Tennessee can keep the defeatist mentality of their own fans off the field.
5. Illinois- Every week, Illinois is a treat to watch. Juice is such a dynamic player on a dynamic team. Clearly, Minnesota too is a dynamic team to come out of nowhere and win 5. But Illinois has developed some maturity and consistency, and that'll be the difference.
6. Kentucky- Looks to be a showcase of the Carolina offense vs. a Kentucky defense and two great coaches. But after witnessing Kentucky's late game surge last week, I've decided the plucky Wildcat O is better than the Gamecock D. Besides those great Kentucky fans will show up in full force. Any chance to see Spurrier's arrogance (esp. toward Kentucky) catch up with him.
7. Tech- I've been trying to deflate expectations for Nebraska this whole season. If they had only listened, the Cornhusker fans (whom I greatly admire) wouldn't have suffered in such awful silence in Lincoln when they realized their team wasn't as great as they thought. Too bad. The Red Raiders are Missouri-lite. Expect a very similar score.
8. Oklahoma- I think the Texas defense is probably the best in the Big XII, but that's like saying cardboard is stronger than tissues under a chainsaw. Oklahoma is solid on both sides of the ball, but their offense is incredibly prolific-- like the days when Leach was OC. Should be a good one, but I suspect the final score will make it seem less close than it was.
from 3 months ago
Being the best Defense in the Big 12 might not mean too much, but we are the 6th in the nation in points allowed. 6th! And as for OU's incredible offense... ours is just as good and we don't even have our best RB in the back field yet! If Fozzy is ready to go for the OU game, then our offense goes from great to fantastic.
Both teams have yet to play a solid defense yet, but from what I've seen, I think that we can score on anyone, and once somebody actually pressures Bradford and COVERS his WR's (those guys have 10 yds in between them and any defender on every deep ball) then we'll see for real how good their offense is.
I think the nation is looking for OU to be the new USC, and as a Texas Longhorn it is our duty to derail the so-called unbeatable teams... (USC 2005).
Texas 28
OU 24
TEXAS..... FIGHT!

You've done well with your picks. I'm interested in your thinking on the Ga-Tenn game, that is something I was pondering but i couldn't put it into the words you did.
I agree with you about Illinois, and also Wisconsin, totally. Not because I agree with you but, you have done outstanding summary work there.
And another Fla-LSU and Carolina-Ky going back and forth.

Louisiana Tech 23, Hawaii 21
What's your prediction on that game???

1. LSU - This one is gonna hurt, but who is gonna be surprised?
2. Wisconsin - If theres one team that I am sorry for, it's Wisconsin. 3 Big 10 losses in a row?
3. Arizona St. - Apparently USC didn't get the memo that they were out of the Championship race.
4. Tennessee - is horrible.
5. Minnesota - eh sure, dont know enough about either of these teams to warrant a pick for the underdog.
6. South Carolina - is working hard to prove to everyone that the SEC is over-rated.
7. Nebraska - I was hoping Bo Pelini was going to have more of an impact in his first season, but this is what happens when you leave a cushy job in Baton Rouge : )
8. Texas err... Oklahoma - Who cares? It's going to be a Titanic game.

Ok, this is my first time picking the losers. Bear with me:
1. LSU - Being a Buckeye I dislike both of these teams, I'm taking the Gators.
2. PSU - Wisconsin lose their second straight at Camp Randall? Nah.
3. ASU - USC probably won't let another Pac -10 game slip away.
4. Tennessee - I hope I'm wrong.
5. Minnesota - The Juice is loose!
6. Kentucky - They had their shot last week, couldn't capitalize. Opportunity doesn't knock too often.
7. Nebraska - There will be so many bombs from TT, the Cornhuskers will think they're in Baghdad.
8. Oklahoma - Can we get a new No. 1 please?

I'd go with the Gators just like you did BabyTate. In Meyer's first 3 seasons he has only lost once in Gainsville. I can't see him losing two in a row. I'm a bama fan and all bama fans should be rooting for the Gators in this one. Also I think that loss to Ole Miss is important because a good team always seems to get re-focused after a loss like that.
For OU and Texas im going with Texas.
I also think Penn State loses to Wisconsin.

I wish you had taken Carolina to win but, that's the way it goes sometimes.

Sir, Could we please call the Texas / Oklahoma game what it is..."The Red River Shootout" instead of the sissyfied "Red River Rivalry" ? This game is a grudge match, not the tea party that the politically correct powers that be want it to be portrayed as.
The Gators lost to a mediocre Ole Miss and played flat for 3 quarters against a (sob) very bad Arkansas. There's no way LSU doesn't win it.
I hardly ever comment, but I very much enjoy your contributions.
Thanks,
David

Well then, let's call it what it should be: The Red River Shootout!
Thanks for the comment!

"Winning is kind of like sex.... but better" -The Marksman
Navy showed me last week that I need to give them more credit. Great job by Ken Niumatalolo keeping that program going after Paul Johnson left, one of my candidates for coach of the year.
Speaking of coahces of the year, Bobby Johnson at Vandy keeps using that smoke and mirror tactic on offense mixed with gritty defense to win. To think in my lifetime I would see Vandy first in the East after three SEC games... If Vandy is not a show of parity in college football (five new OL starters this year), then I have no idea what is... Well maybe the 5-1 Gohpers... but that I have to save for the picks...
1. Florida - Look I still think UF has the best offense in the SEC, let's remember Percy Harvin had 266 yards and three touchdowns reciving and rushing against Ole Miss, and then Jeffery Demps and Chris Rainey had 200 yards rushing combined last week.
2. Penn State - It is a shame, Wisconsin will be seen as a team in decline, when in reality they will have played their second close game against a top ten team in a row.
3. USC - I am not going to say that Arizona State is falling down an abyss. They lost to some pretty good teams, but USC is probably not going to lose again, until maybe Arizona... (don't laugh, the Wildcats are 4-1).
4. Georgia - If this game were in Knoxville, maybe they would have a chance.... Maybe.
5. Minnesota - You know I originally typed Illinois while I was thinking Minnesota would win, but then i asked myself where are my guts. Tim Brewster has his team playing well. Granted Illinois' two losses were against top five teams. Illinois will probably win if their offense gets off like they did against Michigan. But here is to the Vandy of the north... Gophers.
6. Kentucky - South Carolina had a good game last week against Ole Miss, but with all those turnovers that the Rebs gave them, you would think the game would not have been so close. Kentucky is playing outside of themselves on defense... who would have thought that? You figure you mix good defense with South Carolina QB's you get a lot of int's.
7. Texas Tech - Nebraska is playing a schedule that is not conducive to a winning season. That game against Va Tech was probably their best chance to win in the last three weeks. But somewhere in the back of Nebraska's head they are thinking about that 77 Tech hung them a few years back...
8. Oklahoma - This game is about as easy to call as it is to watch paint dry. These teams are pretty much even, except in certain areas. Texas probably needs to have another running threat to go along with Colt McCoy, just in case that does not work out. Also Oklahoma will probably throw on Texas's secondary like they are not even there.
Other Games to Watch
Northwestern vs. Michigan State - I wrongly thought this game was last week, and after seeing MSU win without Javon Ringer go for 100 yards, I have to say that it will be tougher for the Wildcats to go 6-0. But C.J. Bacher, Tyrell Sutton and the gang are the type of athletic offense that has given MSU fits all season long (Cal, and Indiana).... Northwestern
Mizzou vs. Oklahoma State - Does anyone want to see fireworks? The Cowboys have scored over 50 points in three straight games. WR Dez Bryant and RB Kendall Hunter are scoring at will. But Mizzou's stats with Chase Daniel at the helm are stupid. 48 drives, 33 scores, 0 three-and-outs, and a TD on every first possesion. The defenses need to bring their hard hats for this one.... Mizzou.
MTSU vs. FIU - Hey do not look now, but FIU is on a two game win streak. Two straight games on the road. Granted one of them was against North Texas, but there was the 19 point victory against Toledo as a 19 point road dog. MTSU has had if nothing an exciting season to watch. There was the 24-14 win over Maryland, then the loss to Kentucky when they were stopped at the one on a hail mary. And who can forget the 32 yard touchdown pass as time expired against FAU. FIU quietly has put together a pretty good defense and a good special teams... I am going way off the beaten path and picking FIU to win their thrid straight..... FIU.
Oh and to all those Miami Hurricanes fans out there... Just wanted to say hi..... :) Go Noles.

I really like your Minnesota pick.
On the money with that Missouri-Okla St game. That will be a good one.
Florida and Kentucky, those are up in the air. People have been shaky on those 2 all week. No real consensus.
Middle Tenn: Their coach is Rick Stockstill who was the QB at Florida State when they played Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl nearly 30 years ago. He is an incredible recruiting machine who worked at Clemson for a good while and later South Carolona before going on to MTSU. They have been a sleeper. Good choice.
Thanks for the picks Kenneth, you have terrific comments and picks. Always glad to see you stop by.

There are very few things as amusing as watching the Sooner Nation leave the fairgrounds with a loss. After all, most have to return to... OKLAHOMA. Interestingly, Oklahoma - translated loosely from it's Native American heritage means... "Dump it here!"
Losers- LSU, Wisconsin, Ariz State, tennessee, minnesota, S. Carolina, Nebraska, and zero University.

Zero University. That's a good one.
You know, when we started out OU led Texas by a large margin in the poll but now it has really closed. Colt McCoy is an awesome player and Texas has seniors that won the national championship as freshmen. They know how to do it.
Thanks Ryan.

I agree with most of your picks.... to be different I'll see LSU wins and Kentucky wins... oh wait, I mean... Florida and South Carolina are the losers.
By the way, how much do I owe you for that nice compliment on the last post? No really, how much?!

Hey Kevin, you're a terrific member of the B/R. Great writing and comments. Always look forward to having you stop by.
Couldn't sell you on Spurrier pulling one off this week I see.
Fla-LSU is just total tossup, I ended up with an overtime thriller. No one can really know about that one. For goodness sakes, it is the last two national champions, how often do we see that?
We've got some great predictions from a lot of folks this week.

Yeah? I think I might hire you on the side for the days that I get up and maybe I need a pick-me-up... you know after spilling a full cup of coffee or having a bunch of people tell me I suck. I can look over and there is BabyTate... Kevin, you're great.
Back to football... yeah, I'm no
