Finally, a head coach we can believe in.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment, AWM. This should've been the choice in 2007.

Well at least now you know why Al took so long to fire Kiffin. He was hoping he would either resign or that he could gather enough evidence against him being a detriment to the team so he wouldnt have to pay him. It was all about Al getting his money back. I feel really sorry for the mess Tom Cable is being thrown in and I think its going to have either really good or really poor results. We'll see. Good article Jeff.

To me Al Davis came off as a strong person. All reports in past said that man was weak and out of his mind. That looked like a man that still has passion for his franchise. Whether you agree with his decision or not, he proved to me yesterday that he still has passion to win and a commitment to excellence.
I think we will see the offense open things up and let Jamarcus make some plays. The handcuffs are off now. Tom Cable will be a strong leader. He just need to handle his business and stay out of the Al Davis doghouse.

Al Davis did look passionate, and I love him saying, "This team can win, and we will win with this team."

When ESPN asked Kiffin if he spoke with Davis anytime after the Broncos loss, Kiffin gave some run around answer which really made me question his credibility. Why not give a simple yes/no answer to such a simple question? the trend on this site has been to bash Al Davis for every single problem. After seeing that interview its clear to me that Davis is neither as senile as we all thought, nor has he lost any of the passion to win. "The Raiders will be back, we will be back"

Great article..I can't believe to what levels Al Davis has sunk too.. It is shameful on how he a blames Kiffin for disgracing the Raiders, but in reality its been Al Davis who has continued for many years to disgrace our once proud Raiders..and as long as he continues to control the reigns the disgrace will continue.. I thought that after the Art Shell experiment was over that the Raiders had finally hit its botom. I felt that with the hiring of Kiffin, hope and faith had been restored..but I was wrong.. All I have seen is that bottoms have trap doors and we just feel through it..

Thanks for the compliments and comments, Maloso Omar 13. I agree with your takes. It was a sad day and a continuance of a sad state of affairs. The presser wasn't necessary, the name calling and finger pointing wasn't necessary either. Al went out of his way to publically embarrass Lane Kiffin and really attempt to kill his career before it starts which was uncalled for.
Al Davis tried to hard to sell us on the reason for the Raiders demise was Lane Kiffin which is far from the truth. 9 coaches since 1987 says it all, the one constant is Al Davis. The Raider Nation deserves better. He isn't going anywhere so that means a continuation of dysfunction, top down distractions and bad decisions. Those who disagree are ones who are not seeing the picture clearly.

Imagine that , a coach who believes in his staff, his players, and his owner ? Coach Cable is the man for the job. Maybe we can get lucky and he will be the next John Madden! Speaking of John Madden I hope he is the " the local football execuive " that Mr. Davis is speaking about. He would be the best choice because he also respects Mr. Davis and is a Raider for life , plus we know he is respected in the game and the media. This would be a dream come true to Raider fans. I don't know about you but after the firing I told all the football fans that "gave me the business " that I love my Team more today than before the firing and I am glad that we still have Mr. Davis in charge . He still knows more about football than any other owner in football.

Raiderdad4ever, It's great to have hope and wish for the best. However, when the same tactic or methods are used providing the same exact results at what point do you say that something is wrong and needs to be corrected?
At what point do you research what happened and come to the conclusion that with every move there's one constant? I applaud you for supporting the Raiders, I've done the same for years but I'm not myopic, nor do I believe that anyone is above scrutiny.
The reason the Oakland Raiders haven't been successful since the mid 80's is Al Davis. I've written several stories about it because I've lived through it. I'm been a Raiders fan for years but prior to that I was and have remained a football fan, I would like to see the Raiders do well but I know exactly why they haven't.

I think the hiring of Tom Cable by Mr.Davis is a great chioce for many reasons. The coach seems to realize what is basic in todays pro sports. the coach needs to believe, built and also create a winning attitude with the way He handles himself. I get pumped up everytime I hear Coach cable talk about the Raider tradition annd history. His press conferance on Monday the first 2 things he mentioned was the Raider fans and The 100 former raider players that were in town for the tribute to Mr.Gene Upshaw. Coach Cable knows that the Raider tradition is something to be proud of and to include the former raiders is just going to help the team. What better to help get pumped up before the game that pre-game speeches by Ken Stabler, Phil Villipiano, and Raymond Chester? I really feel that Coach Cable is the man to help bring the raiders back to the top. He seems to be a true "players coach". After Jano won the game I thought it was great to see Coach cable and coach Ryan hug and celebrate a great home victory in front of a sold out crowd. The Raiders have been , are , and always will be Mr.Davis's team and that's great with me.
