Simply put, the Lakers don't have a better option than Odom right now.

Who else are you going to choose?  Luke Walton, who has had injuries and inconsistency problems?  Trevor Ariza, who is still young and inexperienced?

The fact remains that Lamar Odom is still the best choice for this team.  Argue if you want to that next year Odom should not be re-signed.  You can even argue that he is overpaid.  Until the Lakers have a better option, Odom must be the starter.

Now, on the other hand, if Trevor Ariza steps up and proves that he is better, then fine—let him start. Until that happens, however, the Lakers need to go with the man who so far stands out from the others

  1. Im going to disagree and say we start trevor ariza. before his injury he played extremely well he cut through the middle went to the basket hard and i think it totally works with paus finesse and shot blocking bynum plus the backcourt. Plus lamar odom would have the opportunity to be sixth man of the year how great would that be as a recognition for he's done with the lakers

  2. Playing well as a reserve is very different from playing starter. Many players can play good as a reserve and cannot play the starter position well due to the requirements. The reserves play faster and harder because they are on the court less and Odom has played the starting position since being a Laker. It all comes down to the evidence and Trevor will have too and should have to earn the right to play as a starter
