Bulgaria's football captain Dimitar Berbatov is close to completing a move to Manchester United.
The Telegraph and tabloid Daily Star both reported that Tottenham Hotspur were ready to sell the Bulgarian striker for £28 million to the reigning champions of England.
Manchester United were unwilling to go above £25 million and would wait on Spurs to lower their asking price.

The Red Devils have had their initial offer of £20 million rejected over the weekend, but were content to wait for Spurs to settle for their second offer. The White Hart Lane club might still give manager Juande Ramos the money he needs to make his own signings.
Berbatov has scored 23 goals in each of his two seasons in London since joining from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9 million in 2006. He has been reported to be eager to leave Tottenham for Champions League football, though most of the quotes in that respect came from his agent Emil Danchev, rather than the player himself.

i agree that Dimitar Berbatov would be a fantastic signing for united but all i would be worried about is him maybe getting a little dissgruntled with not playing week in week out becasue you cant just drop tevez and rooney also what if ronaldo stays then youve got four world class attackers (strickers) on the field at 1 time and that is unheard of in the premiership.

do tottenham need to sell him?

From what I understand Tottenham do need to sell him in order to raise the sufficient money to get Bentley. This will also leave them around £10m on which to buy a stiker, someone like Luis Garcia who has been linked quitre heavily.
Ramos would obviously love to keep him but probably realises that if he can get two first team players with the money then he would probably be improving his overall team.

This would be a strong signing for Man Utd they need a true goalscorer.
